A private ballet lesson at ARTIS is sixty minutes in the studio with one of our professionally trained teachers, built entirely around you: your level, your goals, your body. Lessons cost €150 each or €1,200 for a pack of 10 (valid 90 days from the first lesson); online coaching by video is €120 per lesson or €1000 for a pack of ten. Private lessons are booked at least 48 hours ahead and are available to adults and children alike.

People take private lessons for very different reasons, and the lesson looks different each time.

Who private lessons are for

  • Complete beginners who would rather learn the basics alone before joining a group, or who cannot make the group times.
  • Returners coming back after years away, after an injury or after a pregnancy, who want technique rebuilt carefully.
  • Adult students preparing for pointe, a specific variation, a performance or an exam.
  • Children and teenagers preparing for an audition at a professional ballet school, or needing extra attention on placement.
  • Professional and pre-professional dancers looking for a Vaganova-trained eye on their technique while in Vienna.
  • Anyone who wants to move better (posture, walking, presence) without ever intending to perform.

What a lesson contains

A short conversation about what you want; a warm-up on the floor or at the barre; then work on exactly the thing that matters — placement, turnout, port de bras, pointe strength, a variation — with continuous correction. You leave with two or three things to practise until next time. Many students take a lesson every one or two weeks; before an audition or a performance, more often.

Who teaches privately

Alexandra Somova, founder and artistic director, a Vaganova Academy graduate with six seasons at the Mariinsky Ballet and years at the Bayerisches Staatsballett, and the ARTIS faculty — dancers of the Mariinsky, the Bayerisches Staatsballett and the Wiener Staatsoper. Tell us your goal and we match you with the right teacher.

Online coaching

For students outside Vienna, or between visits, we coach by video: €120 per 60-minute lesson. You need a barre or a sturdy chair, a few square metres of floor and a camera that shows your whole body. Online works best for technique review, exam and audition preparation and for keeping a routine going while travelling.

Questions

Arranging a private lesson

01

How much is a private ballet lesson?

€150 for 60 minutes in the studio, or €1,200 for a pack of 10 lessons, valid 90 days. Online coaching is €120 per lesson or €1,000 for ten. Prices include VAT.

02

Can a complete beginner take private lessons?

Yes. Many beginners start with two or three private lessons to learn the positions and the barre without an audience, then join Ballet Zero, our group course for absolute beginners.

03

Do you teach children privately?

Yes, especially for audition preparation and placement work. A parent is welcome to watch.

04

What if I need to cancel?

A private lesson can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before the appointment; later than that it counts as taken.

05

How do I book?

In the ARTIS app — a single lesson or a pack of ten, at least 48 hours ahead — or write to us through the site or WhatsApp with your goal and available times, and we confirm a teacher and a time.
